Kalina od 15 lat mieszka poza Polską. Doktorat z biotechnologii obroniła w 2010 r. na Uniwersytecie Technicznym w Grazu. Potem pracowała w Lozannie, Singapurze, a obecnie na Uniwersytecie w Wiedniu.
